Helpful tips for our guests
As our guest, you’ll have access to our handpicked recommendations—those little secrets you won’t find in any guidebook. From tucked-away trattorias and hidden wine cellars to gems known only by locals, we love sharing the discoveries that make a stay in Cavatore truly unforgettable.
Restaurants
A five minute walk from the villa you’ll find Da Fausto, a beloved family-run restaurant that captures the essence of Piedmontese cuisine. Here, traditional recipes meet warm hospitality—homemade pasta, rich seasonal flavors, and local wines served with pride. Whether you come for a long lunch on the terrace or a cozy dinner, the Da Fausto-family will impress you.
Two minute walk from the villa is Losto, a new restaurant that opened in 2025. They are a cheaper alternative to Da Fausto, but still a great place for an authentic piedmontese meal.
A restaurant so intimate it feels like it could fit in the palm of your hand, rustic with its exposed brickwork and copper cookware hanging on the walls. It's located in the historic center of Acqui Terme, a short drive from Cavatore.
Is it the best pizza in town? Well, they never disappoint us. Open for lunch and dinner, and offer warm and fun service. The waitress tends to correct our italian in a charming way, and make jokes with the kids. Here we always feel welcome.
Cafe´s
The perfect spot for a quick drink and a nibble while you watch people go by. Lovely sandwiches and coffee during the day, and outstanding aperitivo in the afternoon.
A great place for a quick slice of focaccia with lots of different toppings. Similar to a slice of pizza, but different. Sold by weight and heated when you order. Eat in or take away, though we highly recommend eating in and finishing with one of their delicious pastries.
Winerys
Piedmont is world-famous for its legendary wine regions like Barolo and Barbaresco, but some of the greatest discoveries lie just beyond the spotlight. Around our villa you’ll find smaller vineyards and family-run estates producing outstanding wines—often more personal, authentic, and delightfully surprising. Exploring the local hills offers not only world-class flavors, but also a chance to meet the winemakers themselves and experience the true heart of Piemonte’s wine culture.
Marco Malfatti and his family offers great wine at a low price point a 20 minute drive from Villa del Martello. They offer tastings, and you can get to see the production first hand in their combined cantina and tasting room. They offer a wide range of products, and is a great place to get some locally produced cheese as well. Friendly staff with great stories. You load the wine directly from the loading dock in to your car if you are in the mood to stock up your wine cellar.
Carlos and Guido Gallo represent the fourth generation of their winemaking family, crafting wonderful wines with passion and tradition. Among their range, the spumante 1831 stands out—a sparkling wine made in the traditional méthode champenoise. It is truly something special and absolutely worth a taste. 24 minute drive from Cavatore.
At Matteo Poggio’s vineyard, guests are welcomed with breathtaking views over the hills, a charming wine shop, and a beautiful tasting room. Matteo speaks excellent English and shares his wines with passion, making every tasting both informative and memorable. His dedication shines through each bottle, offering a true taste of Piemonte’s winemaking tradition. 30 min drive.
Winemaker Claudia Cordara runs her estate together with her son and daughter-in-law. Tastings are hosted by lovely Claudia and her daughter-in-law in a beautiful tasting room, where guests can enjoy not only the wines but also explore fair trade products from her daughter-in-law’s home country India. Colorful cotton bags, clothing, and small gifts add a unique touch to the experience. The wines themselves are the true highlight. Tasting with Claudia is not only about flavors, but also about discovering the history and heart behind every glass. 25 minute drive.
Grocery stores
Supermarket with everything you need. Great counters with fresh meat and fish, bread, cakes, cheese and cold cuts. Has fresh pizza dough so you can make your own pizza! Open every day.
A smaller supermarket, but a bit closer to the house. Great for a quick stop.
These are the two we usually go to, but there are more - for example Carreforur, Lidl, Gulliver, Galassia, Penny and others.
Veterinarian
When we visit the villa, we always bring our miniature dachshund, Tago. Before returning home, he needs a deworming treatment with proper documentation in his passport—a task made simple, efficient, and affordable by Dr. Andrea Ratto. The vet next door Due Fonte is altso a good option.
If you prefer not to visit the vet yourself, Martina can arrange for a professional to come directly to the house to perform the treatment and handle the paperwork. This service is convenient but comes at a higher cost. Either way, your pets are well cared for during their stay in Italy.
Markets
Every Tuesday and Friday, the streets of Acqui Terme come alive with a bustling market. In addition to fresh local produce, cheeses, cured meats, and regional specialties, you’ll find stalls selling clothing, kitchenware, and second-hand treasures.
Antique lovers will find plenty to explore every Sunday in the Piemonte region and beyond:
First Sunday of the Month: Alessandria and Bistagno
Second Sunday of the Month: Casale Monferrato, Pavia and Torino
Third Sunday of the Month: Nizza Monferrato and Torino
Fourth Sunday of the Month: Santo Stefano Belbo, Asti, Acqui Terme and Navigli in Milan
Each market offers a unique selection of antiques, vintage treasures, and curiosities, perfect for a leisurely Sunday outing. Be sure to go early to get the best finds!
Things to do in the area
Just a short walk from the villa, you can enjoy unique lama and alpaca walks with Animal Walk. Stroll through the picturesque Monferrato hills in the gentle company of these friendly animals. The walks offer a peaceful, mindful experience, perfect for families or anyone looking to connect with nature in a fun and unusual way.
